Truth be told our newest Cromo frame has a very familiar feel and style to it.
Yes, it looks like some Old School BMX frames and the downtube design is inspired by both those BMX models as well as motorcycle frames that date back more than 3 decades.
However, when you delve deeper into the details, you will realize that whilst inspired by the past, if you look at the market today, there is really nothing like it currently available!
What do we mean? Well, for starters this is a full-blown 29er off-road bike that was designed with modern MTB frame geometry and bike standards.
This combination of geometry and frame standards offer a unique versatility and durability that delivers the freedom to be very creative with how you spec and build yours.
Whether it is a bike-packing rig for multi-day adventures or a gravel build for touring, we know this bike is ready and up for it!
So check out the full breakdown of features to get your dream bike build ideas flowing.
Frame-Kit Includes:
- TWIN-T Cromo Frame – S, M, L Sizes Available ( see Geometry and Sizing Tab )
- CNC Seatclamp – 34.9mm
No ordinary Gravel Build for no ordinary frame design.
Leaning heavily towards Gravel Monster Cross this build offers a mix of MTB and Gravel components to ensure dirt-worthy adventures.
From the Custom Boost 29er Wheelset to the Supa-Wide Drop handlebars we wanted to ensure both comfort and control for heading into the hills and charging the singletrack.
Designed around a 490 to 510mm axle-to-crown fork, the bike can handle either a rigid fork or a modern suspension fork ( yes, that would make things even more interesting )
We kept the build more DIRT by opting for the sublime Fox Transfer Dropper ( complete with that Kashima Factory coating ) and a 180mm front rotor.
Strap on some bags and lights and this would make one very fun and comfortable bikepacking rig!

FAQ
Q : Is this frame for GRAVEL or MTB use?
A : The simple answer is BOTH. With the way GRAVEL builds and component choice is evolving, the lines are getting very blurry to say the least. With our slightly longer ( than MTB’s from just 2 or 3 years ago ) and slightly slacker frame design, the frame could easily be built as a dropbar or riser/flat MTB build. Add in the massive tyre clearance in the frame and the flexibility is there.
Q : What frame tubing is used on this frame?
A : We use 4130 Cromoly tubing throughout the frame. The tubing has been carefully selected to ensure the “lively” and unique “feel” of steel is evident during the ride. From the small 22.2mm twin-tubes that run from the headtube to the BB, to the butted 34.9mm ( 1.65mm to 0.9mm ) seattube, every tube has been carefully selected for a special blend of ride quality.
Q : Why is the frame so damn heavy?
A : Cromoly. That special and unique frame material that offers incredible durablity and a “lively” feel on the trail is unfortunately not light! Given the preferred and intended use of this frame ( bikepacking / adventure / touring / fun ) we figured having a durable and reliable frame that weighs roughly 800g more than a “conventional steel hardtail “ is well worth the extra grams. Add your favorite adventure gear and bags and the +800g or so is really marginal. It’s like carrying an extra 750ml bottle on your bike … We also think the look and style of the frame is worth that extra few grams!
Q : What is the tyre clearance on this frame?
A : We designed it around a 29 x 2.4 width spec ( using an internal rim width up to 30mm ) and this means it could also work with 27.5 x 2.6 rubber.
Q : Can I run this frame as a 2x Spec?
A : Nope, there is no cable routing for that. This is a 1x specific frame.
Q : If I built it up as a MTB build, what fork travel can I run?
A : The frame’s geometry was optimized for an axle-to-crown measurement of 510mm. This means a 100 to 120mm travel fork would be ideal to ensure the bike still handles and rides like it was intended. You could possibly run a 130mm fork but that would be the edge of the spectrum – don’t go longer.
Q : What if I wanted to run a Rigid Fork?
A : A great option and we designed this frame to work with 29er Rigid Forks. Our Cromo Rigid 29er Fork would be the ideal match for this frame. As the frame uses Boost 148 rear spacing, it would make sense to ensure the Rigid Fork is also Boost – that being 110 spacing.
Q : Can I run a Dropper Seatpost?
A : Yes, the seattube has an internal cable port at the rear of the tube, near the BB. The inner diameter is 31.6mm. We would recommend a 100 to 125mm drop version.
Q : Why only 3 frame sizes?
A : As this is our first year offering this style of frame and recognizing it is a fairly unique choice of both material and geometry, we had to be conservative to reach certain minimum order quantities with our frame supplier. The LARGE size with a longer dropper could work as an XL for some. If this frame is successful, we would look at adding more sizes either side of the spectrum.
Q : What is the warranty on this frame?
A : 5 years for defects in materials and construction. As a 4130 Cromoly frame, these are going to be a lot more durable and tougher than a similar Alloy or Carbon version.
Q : Where is this frame manufactured?
A : Whilst we are based in Perth, Western Australia, this frame is welded and finished for us in Taiwan. We work with a highly respected frame manufacturer and the paint/finish is handled by a special paint shop in Taiwan.
Q : Can I contact you for technical assistance and advice on components to purchase for my build?
A : Definitely! We would welcome enquiries and e-mails requesting assistance. Given the nature and design of these frames, they are going to allow for some very creative and bespoke builds. Feel free to reach out via makeevery@ridefarr.com and we will endeavour to assist or at least point you in the right direction with regards to which parts to source and purchase
